Why this work is personal
Planning before a crisis.
When Haven & Signal began, André and his wife, Nicoli, were based in Belgium while preparing for a nomadic move. Their parents and parents-in-law, all over 65, live independently in Brazil. The family members who are closer have homes and responsibilities of their own, while other close relatives also live abroad.
Today, video calls, phone conversations, and family check-ins help everyone stay connected and notice whether ordinary routines are going well. There is no immediate crisis. The concern is what comes next and how to prepare without taking control away from people who remain active and independent.
Haven & Signal grew from that question: how can a family add useful support early, understand what technology can and cannot do, and know who will respond when distance matters?
Lived experience
André brings the perspective of a son and son-in-law coordinating family support from another country. That experience shapes the questions Haven & Signal asks.
